"  The Guardian of Volcano "


This Voluntary Program is part of the " cooperation agreement "  exists between the agency and the program ASVO of the Ministry of Environment and Energy ( MINAE ), institution of the government of Costa Rica that administrate and protect all the  system of  National Parks and Natural Reserves of country.


The program develops in one of the most paradisiacal locations of Costa Rica called Arenal Volcano National Park located in the Northwest of the country.


The Park it has an extension of 12,000 hectares of  very wet and pre-mountain forest, where is possible appreciate a huge diversity  of flora and fauna including many different kind of trees and  ferns and many kinds of mammalians, birds and reptiles.


Main attractions of park: one of the most beautiful active volcanoes on the world, one of last shelters of the " Bell Bird " and the Quetzal, both in danger of extinction, a  lake of  84 Km2 where is possible generate electricity and practice water sports, many paths with great views to  volcano and  lake.


The park disposes of services as:

· Potable Water

· Some trucks and boats

· Comfortable installations 


The park is 13 km far from  " La Fortuna " town  where is possible to purchase any kind of groceries in supermarkets and have access to other services as internet, post office, fashion and souvenir shops, drugstores and banks.

The " Voluntary Work  " includes maintenance of paths and buildings, attention to visitors, " Day or Night " patrol in company of the guards of park.


The volunteers lodge in a big bedroom area where boys and girls sleep separately. Is a big dining area where eat both volunteers and personal of park and is bathroom and shower areas for boys and for girls.


The Program requires a minimum stay of Two Weeks.


The candidate to participate in this program must to:


  1. Fill the form " Offer of Voluntary Service " that allow us to have a previous profile of candidate.

  2. Sign the "Agreement concerning to voluntary service in a conservation area" that demands  MINAE.

  3. Respect the " Voluntary Work "  rules.
