Playa Hermosa - Sea Turtles Project
Location: " Playa Hermosa Wild Life Shelter ", is located at Playa Hermosa Beach, Central Pacific coast of Costa Rica, around 2.5 hours away from San Jose City and 8 kilometers away from Jaco Beach.
Playa Hermosa is a protected beach area of around 5 miles long surrounded of private lands dedicated to farming and cattle raising.
Weather: The average temperature is between 24ª and 28 º Celsius. The Rainy Season is from May to November, and it rains constantly.
Flora: The forest is dry tropical on transition to wet. Additionally the property offers the 4 kinds of mangrove existing on earth.
Fauna: This place is an important nursery of the Parrot Turtle. It is also an important sanctuary for many kind of migratory and stationary birds. It offers as well a large family of crocodiles who lives at the rivers of the Rio Tulin.
Main attractions: the yearly visit of hundreds of " Parrot Turtles " from July to January, who comes to lay around 100,000 eggs and generate around 60,000 new baby turtles.
Great waves on the Beach area that makes of Playa Hermosa, one the best Surfers Paradises in Costa Rica. Besides is possible to take a bath on the sea and sun tanning.
The shelter disposes of services as:
· Electricity.
· Potable Water
· A Comfortable House with single and twin beds, kitchen, dining room, bathroom and laundry area. Safety Box in not available.
In " Playa Hermosa " town is possible to find some groceries and restaurants.
In Jaco Beach, located around 25 minutes away by bus from shelter, is possible to find a much more services as banks, hotels, casinos, night clubs, restaurants, supermarkets and internet service.

Goals of Project
* Protect the Parrot Turtle, in danger of extinction, that it come to lay their eggs at the beach area.
* Protect the coast-marine resources of area.
* Give to Volunteers the chance to live a Highly Enrichment experience on several fields as protection and treatment of Wild Species and Environment.
* Give an efficient support to different maintenance labors of Shelter.
Main Duties of Volunteers
* Installation of Signs on the Beach Area.
* Give a support to Data collection and Nurseries Protection Patrols.
* Locate, count and relocate Baby Turtles on Nurseries.
* Monitor the Baby Turtles incubation process in nurseries.
* Counting and releasing of the Baby Turtles.
* Exhumation of Dead bodies from nurseries.
* Maintenance labors at Buildings or any other particular sector of Shelter.
* Any other duties demands Administration of Shelter.
The work shift is of 7 hours daily, 6 days a week . More of work develops on night shifts.
The candidate to participate at program must to:
1 Fill the form " Offer of Voluntary Service "
2 Sign the " Agreement concerning to voluntary service in a conservation area " that demands MINAE.
3 Respect the " Voluntary Work " rules.

Meals description
Mainly Rice, beans, plantains, vegetable salads, chicken, beef or pork, eggs, fruits and occasionally Corn flakes and milk for breakfast.
What to Bring
Blanket, sheets, Mosquitoes Repellent, Sun Lotion, Tooth Paste and Brush, Soap, Deodorant, Comfortable and Fresh Wear and comfortable and closed Shoes.
What's included: Accommodation on Single or Double Room with share bathroom, 4 daily mealtimes. Volunteering Work under supervision of Project`s Staff. Airport Pick Up In/Out on scheduled arrival/ departures dates only, Transfer to Bus Terminal, Bus Ticket to Project- One Way, Certificate of Participation, C.R. Souvenir and taxes.
Not Included: International air fare, CR departure taxes ( $26 per person ),Airport Charge ( $ 9 per person ), meals and drinks not specified in the itinerary, and gratuities or extra costs associated with changes in your itinerary for reasons beyond our control.
